Durango Heritage Celebration

Bring local history alive to benefit the Durango community October 11 – 14, 2012. From special happy hours to a Grand Victorian Ball, prepare to enjoy some far-out costumes and have a blast at the Durango Heritage Celebration.

Support this fundraiser while having a good time and harkening back to the Victorian phase of the old west...a time of great prosperity in Durango during the railroad era when many affluent businesses and residents built grandiose buildings and elegant homes along what are now historic Second and Third Avenues. The center of downtown Durango is rich in Victorian and Old West History.

The Durango Heritage Celebration honors this Victorian heyday with a grand celebration and a variety of unique activities and events. Everyone in Durango adores and supports their beloved Animas Museum. The museum offers some of the most interesting presentations and programming. It is one of the top museums that kids enjoy.

The costumes and the atmosphere throughout downtown shopping zones and galleries makes you feel as though you have been transported back in time. Let's be honest, Victorian era costumes make the vibe a little bit creepy yet a whole lot of fun. You will find yourself giggling (and sometimes shivering) your way thorough downtown as you marvel at the costumes while enjoying all the restaurants and boutiques.

Yes, I realize it sounds a bit macabre, but the Greenmount Cemetery Tour is not to be missed! Go on the tour, and find out for yourself. Before you book your lodging and travel to Durango, check out the “Then and Now Photo Gallery” and see how many downtown Durango structures you recognize.

Who knew the Victorian era had so many crazy dance steps? And who knew that the days during the Durango Heritage Celebration could be such a crazy fun time to visit Durango?
