Feature Friday - Upcoming Durango Events

We have a lot of really cool upcoming summer events in Durango so we thought it would be fun to feature our top 5 favorite Durango events for Today's Feature Friday! 

1.  Animas River Days - This event is actually this weekend June 8 - 10! It's a fun event that is focused all on the Animas River with fun kayak slalom race, downriver race, kayak and inflatable rodeos, boatercross, up-down paddleboard race, river parade in costume and parade after-party at Ska Beer Garden at Santa Rita Park. Also a yellow duck race, movie night, reel paddling film festival, a "Clean-up the Animas" contest, dog contests, plus lots of fun activities for children and featuring WOW bubbles.

2. Canines for The Cure/Bark for Life Celebration - This event is a must for dog owners!  It's located at Santa Rita Park on June 16 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. and there's a 3-mile (1.5 mile out-and-back) charity walk on the Animas River Trail to raise money for the American Cancer Society. There will be additional demonstrations, contests and other fun games and activities going on all afternoon as well.  Also, every registered participant will receive an event bandana and special goodies.  The walk will cost $25 per dog. 3. Music in the Mountains - Durango's premier three-week classic music festival from July 8 - 29.  It is one of the longest running classical music festivals in the southwest with a host of concerts and events in venues in southwest Colorado featuring orchestra, chamber and conservatory performances of classical and world music.  World class musicians travel from all around the world to take part in the Festival Orchestra. 4. Durango Railfest - The Durango Railfest is an annual event that celebrates all that goes by rail.  Rare and unique railroad equipment and cars are the stars at the Durango Railfest. The Denver and Rio Grande's Galloping Goose is one rail star not to be missed. An 1875 wood fired locomotive is another example of the equipment that appears at the Railfest. This locomotive makes special excursions on the D&SNGR. This an event for all to enjoy, especially railfans. Check it out August 17 - 19.  

5.   USA Pro Cycling Challenge - New this year! Durango is serving as the host city of USA Pro Cycling Challenge, and there will be seven stages this year instead of six and will have stops in Telluride, Montrose, Crested Butte, Aspen, Beaver Creek, Brekenridge, Colorado Springs, Golden, Boulder and finish in Denver. A 7-day race from Durango to Denver. Come see the famous cyclists from around the world. The race will go from August 20 - 26 and start on August 20th in Durango.
