Feature Friday - Wilderness Trails Ranch

This week's Follow Friday is another Durango Dude Ranch, Wilderness Trails Ranch.  Wilderness Trails is owned and operated by the Roberts family in Durango who pride themselves in creating the perfect Colorado dude ranch vacation for their guests. The Roberts family "invites you to experience our spectacular mountain setting" and genuine western hospitality which we have shared with guests from around the world for over 42 years!

1. A dude ranch is such a fun and unique way to experience Durango.  What makes a dude ranch special?

There is no other hotel/resort/all inclusive property that gives you the opportunity to completely disconnect (we have no telephones in the room & cell phones don't work here) so that you can reconnect with that which is most important in life such as loved ones, nature, ourselves, wildlife, horses, mountains, etc.  (whatever is your priority).  All this is possible while at the same time enjoy great dining experiences, comfortable and well appointed horse motif cuter than cute cabins.

2. What activities do you offer at Wilderness Trails and which are the most popular?

Horseback riding including cattle work, arena and round pen work, incredible 1/2 and all day rides in the largest wilderness region in mainland USA, water sports at Vallecito lake with either a pontoon boat or jet boat including water skiing, wake boarding and tubing, gold medal water fishing both casting and fly fishing, pool, hot tub, stocked ponds with "Rocky Mountain Rainbow Trout", either catch and release or have cooked up to add to your already full made to order breakfast, outstanding evening entertainment including hayrides, WTR Branding, dance lessons, cowboy poetry plus so much more, you never get bored!  The favorite is of course the main reason people come to the ranch is to taste the cowboy way of life and ride horses.  Our horse program is unsurpassed in quality and outstanding horses!

3.  You have a Cowgirl Camp and an Adults Only week at the ranch.  Tell us about these events and do you have any other fun events/activities like this at WTR?

a) Cowgirl Camp - women bonding together while enjoying the ranch, riding, dancing, wine tasting, roping and rounding out the week at the little local honky tonk for a "girls night out". A blast and many women return year after year just for this one week.  So cowgirl up and come have some fun!  Only $2195 per person all inclusive (that means everything except alcohol or what you buy in "R" Tradin' Post or gift shop).
b)  Adults only in September is a tradition of the ranch for the past 42 years that the Roberts Family have owned the ranch.  It gives adults the opportunity to enjoy the ranch and concentrate on what adults like to do which is generally ride, relax and have quality evening entertainment.  Only $2095 all inclusive per person.

4.  If a visitor or local just wanted to check out WTR for the day what could they do at the ranch?

This is limited as we only allow outside people for horseback riding and some meals when we have the horses/wranglers available after our all inclusive guests needs are met.  We do open to the public on Thursday nights for our candlelight gourmet dinner and dance to follow.

5.  What do you think is Durango's best kept secret?

The best kept secret is "Good lookin' Cowboys and Bikers alike share a beer together on main street and us ladies love the eye candy"!  The other best kept secret is we are located in what many say is the "Most Beautiful Mountain Area" in the world!
