Feature Friday - Soaring Treetop Adventures

It's Feature Friday time again!! This week, we're happy to announce that Soaring Treetop Adventures is our Featured Client here on BestDurangoColoradoVacations.com.  Soaring Treetop Adventures is a very unique zipline here in Durango and I think you will be very suprised by some of their answers to our questions -- I know I was!

1.  Soaring Treetop Adventures was the first zipline in Durango.  How did you get started?

Soaring Tree Top Adventures was actually the first zipline in the United States, and opened to guests in 2004. Denny Beggrow, the owner of Tall Timber Resort, (Soaring’s location), and his son Johnroy, were seeking a new and unique idea to entice the grown children and grown grandchildren of loyal repeat resort guests back to Tall Timber.  While watching the movie ‘Medicine Man’, with the equipment they have in the movie, they thought they could create something really special in our Old-Growth Ponderosa forest.  Soaring is now the largest zipline course in the world!

2.  Kelly Ripa and her family recently ziplined with you, have there been any other notable people on your ziplines?

We have had other notable celebrities come Soaring.   Though they have booked Soaring privately and have chosen to remain anonymous, so all I can say is other celebrities whose names you would most definitely recognize, as well as CEO’s and owners of some large corporations that are household names.   We try to respect everyone’s privacy and focus on making sure everyone has the most memorable day at Soaring, and that everyone feels well catered to during their zipline adventure.  Our most recent “celebrity” was the winner of the Wheel of Fortune’s Durango Prize Package, Janna Wilkes, and her husband Dave.  While Soaring was out of their comfort range, they had a fantastic time trying out a new adventure.

3. What is your favorite way to spend a day in Durango?

Hiking in the beautiful San Juan Mountains for an occasional picnic on a rock cliff or aside the Animas River.  Staring at groves of Aspens and wildflowers never gets old.

4. What are the oldest and youngest zipliners to zipline with you?

Our youngest guest is typically four years old, though we ask that children weigh about 50 pounds and can operate independent of the parents.  Our eldest guest was a spunky lady named Dottie, at 91 years old.  She was a blast and completed the entire course, including our 1400-foot zipline span.

5. What do you think is Durango's best kept secret?

With no road access and located in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, I think Soaring Tree Top Adventures is one of Durango’s best kept secrets, despite being the #1 Attraction in the U.S. on TripAdvisor.com!
