Feature Friday - Mild 2 Wild Rafting

Feature Friday is a new series of blog posts we will be doing to feature some of our favorite Durango businesses.  We're kicking off this fun series with five questions answered by Molly of Mild to Wild Rafting.

What is your most popular trip?  Jeep tours, rafting or combo packages?

Our most popular package is the Rivers, Rails and Trails package which is our Jeep/Train (bus to Silverton, Jeep Trail Tour above Silverton, and Train Silverton to Durango) followed/preceeded by a 1/2 day raft trip another day.

2. Other than spending a day with Mild 2 Wild what is your favorite way to enjoy Durango?

Playing at the beaches along the Animas River, Durango Mountain Resort, Soaring Tree Top (zip lining), Biking on the bike path that runs through town and Hiking to Potato Lake

3. Mild 2 Wild is known to have great guides!  Where do you find your guides and how do you pick them?

We train most of our guides in house. They complete a 14 day on river (with some overnights to learn to be the complete guide - how to set up camp, how to prepare food, how to keep camp cleanliness, how to entertain around the campfire, customer service, river ettiquette, ect). We take them on lots of different river so they learn how to "read" the river, not just memorize it. This makes them a better guide because as the river changes with the water levels, they can "read" it and hit the best, safest lines.  We then interview the guides, check referrences and have each of our  state certifiied instructors evaluate them. From this information, we pick the cream of the crop....hire, and continue training them.

4. What is the oldest and youngest customers you've had rafting the Animas?

The youngest we take is 3 years old and 30 pounds and this is on the Colorado River in Moab, Utah. On the Animas in Durango we prefer age 4 and at least 35 pounds. The oldest we have take was a spry 98 year old woman.

5. What would you say is Durango's best kept secret?

It's great rivers, it's great art, it's amazing food, and the friendliest people.
