Groundhog Day 2011!
As we all know most holidays have plenty of great events attached to them, hello HOLiDAZZLE and that great New Year's Eve Snowflake Drop we just had. But Durango has noticed that Groundhog Day is one holiday that has been neglected. Since we all like a great excuse to celebrate any holiday the city of Durango has put together a fun event all in the spirit of Groundhog Day! All those who are winter and snow lovers, the people you will find at Purgatory every second they're off work, or maybe the ones who you always see outside shoveling their snow, making snowmen or sledding around town, those people will form a "6 more weeks of winter" team. Then all those who love their spring and summer hikes, bike rides and flip flops will compose the opposing team. These two teams will compete in a friendly tug-of-war match to see if the winter advocates will get their 6 more weeks of winter or if the spring enthusiasts will get their early spring weather. If you're not ready for spring just yet and need some more powder time or dying for that nice spring weather in Durango come out and help your team! The tug-of-war match will take place on E. Second Ave on Groundhog Day, February 2.
