Durango Fall Foliage

The golden aspens are covering the mountains here in the Durango area.  According to the Forest Service website, the colors are peaking now and into this weekend.  Purgatory area and Molas Pass are at about 90% of fall color and Durango is at about 30%.  The best viewing areas, with the most color in Southwest Colorado are, US Hwys 550 and 145, Dolores River up to Rico, Purgatory area north of Durango.  If you're not around this weekend, no worries, Wolf Creek Pass (US Hwy 160) still hasn't quite reached peak yet, so there is still time for those colors to peak.

There are plenty of great ways to enjoy the fall colors here in Durango.  The D&SNGRR is a beautiful way to watch the colors change as you ride the train from Durango to Silverton.  Also, the first Peanuts Pumpkin Patch Express train will depart this Saturday, October 9. The San Juan Skyway is another great way to enjoy the fall colors, it has been called "The Most Beautiful Drive in America" Looping through the beautiful San Juan Mountains, this 236-mile route takes you through the San Juan, Uncompahgre, Wilson and Sneffels mountain ranges. The route passes through the towns of Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Ridgway, Telluride, Rico, Dolores, Cortez and Mancos.
