The Strater Hotel has been around for quite some time, since 1887 to be exact, just announced they will be adding the Energy Star  Rating to the Hotel.  The Energy Star Rating is the most recognized national metric for evaluating building energy efficiency.  Meeting the Energy Star requirements is not an easy task for any hotels and especially not easy for historic hotels.  Much of the energy efficient upgrades include changing light bulbs to low wattage compact fluorescent bulbs, utilizing a large hot water storage tank to preheat water, and changing out windows for ones with an increased R value. Another first includes the use of heated windows in the Strater’s fine dining restaurant, The Mahogany Grille. The heated windows detracts the cold weather outside and allows the restaurant to use less gas heat, some of the first of their kind!   Also, the Strater is a member of the Historic Hotels of America and is the only member hotel, out of 200, to achieve this high rating of energy efficiency. Go Strater!
