Durango Gigapan

I just received an email from a nice man, Bill Alberts, who has created this amazing photo, a GigaPan, of Durango.  He said that he has created this image from taking 375 photos and stitching them all together and that this could be the highest definition photo ever taken of Durango.  Instantly I checked out the photo which was amazing! You can zoom in and practically see down the streets of downtown!

I had never heard of a GigaPan and was interested to check it out. So for those of you like me who are wondering what GigaPan is let me explain.  The goal is to create one large image by taking large gigapixel composite pictures and stitching them together to create one image where you can zoom and browse through one single image.  So, when you look at an image it appears to be a picture taken from far away, but when you zoom into the image you are able to see details without getting pixilated.  There is even an image on there of President Obama's inaugural address, you can zoom in right to Obama's face!  Pretty Cool!  Make sure to check out Durango's and zoom and browse through Durango, right from your computer!

Bill initially sent me the email because his image, at one time came up first under the keyword search "Colorado" at the GigaPan site and now has slipped to fifth. Bill wanted me to post on our facebook page to hopefully get more exposure and get it back to the top spot.  I decided to not only post on our facebook and twitter but also blog about this photo and my learning experience from being introduced to GigaPan!
